How do you create an engaging course?
Start with Backwards Design! Mom’s of children with cancer have limited time, and energy, and yet need huge amounts of compassionate and informative support. My friend Elissa Arnheim of Happy Gut Happy Child gives that kind of support. I created the course Guilt-Free Gut Health to support her community.
With Backwards design we begin with the end in mind. What does your client want at the end of your program? We can ask them! But we might receive a simplistic or not very well thought out answer. One way to get a deeper response is to ask a deeper question. A provocative question does not have a simple or right answer, it is meant to make a person think about their response.
“I would like ____________ to change about my child’s gut-health so they can___________.”
Another great way to delve deeper into what your clients want to accomplish through your program is to give them a visioning exercise. This exercise can reveal new things to the client and increase their awareness of their own motivations. This has the bonus effect of becoming a motivation for change.
